ACS Omega Publication

I am pleased to share that our latest paper, Cellulose Biofilms, New Biotemplates in the Synthesis of Cuprate Superconductors, has been published in ACS Omega.

In this work, we used cellulose biofilms as sustainable biotemplates for the synthesis of cuprate superconductors. These included SCOBY, best known from kombucha fermentation, and nata de coco, a bacterial cellulose material commonly encountered as food.

The aim was to explore whether naturally derived cellulose structures could provide useful routes towards controlling superconductor morphology. This continues the broader theme of my PhD work: using unusual, bio-derived, and more sustainable templates to make functional inorganic materials.
